Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims after foiling a mass abduction by terrorists in Magami village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Military authorities said on Sunday that the operation followed a distress call received by troops of Sector 2 in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, reporting that about 40 terrorists on motorcycles had stormed the community and were herding residents into the bush, while another group waited on the outskirts with motorcycles.
Responding swiftly, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee into the surrounding forest.
The intervention led to the successful rescue of all 48 abducted civilians.
However, one resident was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the operation, troops carried out aggressive patrols to dominate the area and prevent further attacks.
Commending the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, the Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the North-West. It also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist elements from the region.
