Troops Raid Illegal Arms Factories In Plateau, Arrest Five Suspects

Troops of the Quick Response Force (QRF), Operation ENDURING PEACE, have busted two illegal arms manufacturing factories in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force OPERATION ENDURING PEACE, Capt. Chinonso Oteh, in a statement on Friday, disclosed that the troops arrested five suspects and recovered a cache of fabricated weapons and industrial equipment during a coordinated raid operation.

Oteh said the operation, conducted on Thursday, 7 May 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE to dismantle illicit arms supply networks and enhance security within its Joint Operations Area (JOA).

According to the Joint Task Force, the successful raid followed intensified human intelligence gathering and strategic surveillance which led troops to the two clandestine weapon fabrication sites. The suspects were reportedly apprehended while actively producing firearms.

Items recovered during the operation include nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, four empty AK-47 magazines, seven skeletal AK-47 rifles and 10 rifle butts.

Troops also recovered 36 empty 7.62mm special shells, four revolver engines, 14 recoiling springs, six hand drilling machines, nine filing machines, four welding machines, as well as other assorted industrial equipment used in the illegal production of weapons.

Military authorities disclosed that the suspects and recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation and exploitation, while troops have intensified covert follow-up operations aimed at tracking and recovering arms and ammunition already in circulation.

Operation ENDURING PEACE commended residents for their continued support and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
