Two Years After, FMC Abuja Unveils New Administrative Building

After Foundation Laying Ceremony in 2021, the Federal Medical Center Jabi has unveiled its ultra-modern administrative complex comprising of sixty-two (62) offices, well-furnished with waiting rooms and other comfort-driven amenities.

Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama in his remarks at the unveiling ceremony on Friday, May 26, 2023 in Abuja said he hoped that this huge investment would further spur staff of the hospital to do more for the people.

Ekumankama informed that the four (4) storey building comprised of sixty-two (62) offices that were well-furnished with waiting rooms and other comfort-driven amenities such as elevator services, constant water supply and a parking lot that could accommodate up to 50 cars.

He said it was his fervent belief that the structure would enhance the capacity and motivation of not only the administrative staff but also Heads of Department and Clinical Consultants who would be allotted offices there for excellent service delivery.

Highlighting some of the Hospital’s achievements, the Minister said, “I want to seize this opportunity to inform us of other great achievements of of the Medical Centre last year which include but not limited to: The provision of highly specialised healthcare services such as Open-heart surgery. Laser operations, Spine surgery and others. The introduction of new services in the fertility centre such as oocyte freezing, peri implantation gamete testing etc.

“The Significant infrastructural developments such as the Construction of state of the art Intensive care unit, Construction and equipping of 40 bedded negative pressure isolation centre, Construction of Dialysis Unit out of an existing female ward extension.

“The Improved Hospital man power through Comprehensive education and periodic training of all staff as part of capacity building to improve efficiency; Expansion of the training programmes and accreditation by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

“Enhanced research activities through creation of research groups and annual research awards from the hospital’s administration”.

He further stated that the Federal Medical Centre Abuja emerged as the best public-owned hospital in the Commonwealth Nations and the Medical Director, Prof. Saad Ahmed emerged Health Advocate of the year.

Concluding his remarks, the Minister implored the hospital management to ensure adequate maintenance of the edifice for its longevity and use by future generations.

On his part, Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Saad A. Ahmed stated that, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Administrative complex held on the 10th of February 2021, adding that, it was built through the regular capital budgets.

Ahmed informed that there were other building projects ongoing in the facility apart from equipment support — ophthalmic complex, Clinical Services block, Counselling Center and Ward Block Extension which are all at advanced stages of completion.

He therefore, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Federal Government and its agencies, the National Assembly and other corporate bodies for making all these possible.

According to him, “we have increased clientele through hard work & dedication to duty of our staff as well as provision of necessary equipment. We recruited some best brains in this country who are providing service in this facility.

“Numerous complex medical and surgical interventions are being carried out in this center — like laser surgeries, open heart surgeries, spine and orthopaedic surgeries, complex neurosurgical interventions diagnostic endoscopy, laporoscopic surgeries, hi-tech ophthalmic services, composite laboratory and radiologic support, comprehensive medical, antenatal and paediatric services, intensive care services among others”, the Medical Director said.
