AGF Pledges Prompt Release Of Funds To Nigeria Police

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has expressed the Federal Government’s readiness and commitment to ensure speedy release of approved funds to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to achieve statutory mandate.

Dr. Ogunjimi made this known recently, when the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

According to a statement on Monday by the Director, Press and Public Relations, OAGF, Bawa Mokwa, the AGF stated that the role of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the nation’s security challenges was enormous and required adequate support to enable the Force to discharge its responsibilities effectively and professionally.

The statement stated that Dr. Ogunjimi also assured the IGP that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August 2026 would require substantial support from the Federal Government to ensure seamless police operations during the electoral process.

He urged the Inspector-General of Police to also continue his engagement with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy to facilitate the release of outstanding funds owed to the Police, noting that inadequate funding could hinder critical security operations.

The statement said while speaking earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr.Olatunji Disu, appealed to the AGF for the prompt release of the outstanding funds to enable the Police to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

He also highlighted the importance of adequate funding for the forthcoming off-season elections in June and August 2026, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would play a critical role in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
