SON Warns Of Fake Juice, Yoghurt Factories In Kano
The Kano State Coordinator of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, (SON), Alhaji Yunusa Mohammed has urged parents and school managements to be wary of the kind of drinks they purchase for pupils’ consumption.
Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed gave the word of caution while speaking with some select journalists within the metropolis in his office on Thursday.
TheFact Nigeria gathered that this was part of an enforcement activity carried out in kano by the SON Kano office.
The essence was to enlighten the general public on a very credible information about some substandard fruit and yoghurt drink produced in an area considered to be unwholesome for consumable products.
The name and addresses on the two products is at variance with the real locational address.
The SON Coordinator said: ”The label indicated that, the juice is produced by Murara investment, plot no 6, Karaye Gwarzo road, Karaye local government Kano, while the yoghurt drink is produced by Salsala sweetened yoghurt, no.18, Charanchi Layin Usman Jallaba Gwale local government Kano.
“Meanwhile, they are being produced and packaged in same location, the exact location for the nefarious act is Rangaza Baba Lugulugu street Dakata, kano.”
It was also learnt that the illicit activities are done nocturnally and the perpetrators disappear in the early hours of every morning to avoid being apprehended.
“Our compliance team visited the location this morning around 6am in anticipation to meet the perpetrators, but to no avail.
“The premises, has no signs of any activities, therefore the team are left with no option than to break into the locked room, which unveiled the claims,” he said.
Furthermore, Alh. Muhammed also adviced parents and schools within the State to ensure that drinks are scrutinized in order to ascertain its safety for human consumption and report any suspected activities around them.
Items evacuated from the location include; generators, sieve, 50 bags of the product containing 150 pieces each, and packaging materials for both juice and yoghurt.
