FG Commissions 21 Fire Fighting Vehicles

The Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Wednesday 11th October 2023 in Abuja Headquarters of the Nigeria Federal Fire Service, commissioned 15 brand new Rapid Response Fire Fighting Vehicles and 6 heavy Fire Fighting Trucks to boost operational efficiency of Nigeria Federal Fire Service.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Director, Press and public Relations Unit, Ministry of Interior, Afonja Ajibola Fatai on Thursday.

According to the statement, the Minister used the occasion to challenge officers and men of the federal fire service to roll their sleeves for work and more work, stating that now is time for work and more work,to deliver efficient fire service to Nigerians in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.

He challenged Management of the fire service to ensure that their operations go beyond fire fighting, extend to proactive ability to forecast impending fire out break and other disasters.

He advised that it’s operation must of necesity incorporate prevention, including efficient warning signals. . “Your responsibilities must go beyond fire fighting.”. You have to plan and be able to forecast danger to prevent occurrence of disaster”.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also implored the FFS that its Institute apart from carrying out personnel training alone, must also integrate training for fire rescuers, who can be deployed to man commercial and public buildings to ensure compliance with fire sefety mechanism.

He said this has become necessary because fire fighting is closely associated with development; which is why the country cannot continue to pay lip service for modern fire fighting practices and techniques.

One important improvement feature of the commissioned fire trucks is their ability to navigate through narrow spaces in the market and residential areas.

In his welcome address at the occasion, the Controller General of Nigeria Federal Fire Service, Engineer Jaji Olola Abdulganiyu said the Minister has elevated work ethics paradigm in the service and awakened the determination of the fire men to pursue the it’s new vision and reset the goals for expectations and achievements of the service in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration including it’s service delivery policy thrust.

He commended the Minister for his visionary leadership and efforts to modernize the services with state of arts equipment and data harmonization to raise the bar of internal security and citizenship integrity for Nigerians to have new sweet experience.

The ceremony has in attendance other dignitories Viz:- Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior – Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, Director, General Services Dr. Peter Egbodo and top management of the ministry.
