Fatal Road Mishap Claims 11 In Kebbi
Eleven persons have lost their lives while 10 others have sustained various degrees of injury in a fatal vehicle accident along the Koko – Yauri road in Kebbi State.
The Kebbi State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Abubakar, made this known in a statement, saying the accident occurred at around 6:00 a.m. in the early hours of Friday, 3rd November 2023.
The accident occurred when the driver of a Volvo DAF truck with registration number KWA 230 SKK, loaded with passengers and bags of beans from Sokoto enroute Ibadan, Oyo State, lost control at Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA, and somersaulted.
Twenty-one persons were injured in the accident and taken to the General Hospital, Shanga, by a team of policemen from the Shanga Division, who rushed to the scene upon receipt of the report.
At the hospital, a medical doctor confirmed 11 dead, while the remaining victims were responding to treatment.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, offered prayers for the repose of the departed souls and commiserated with the grieving families, praying for the courage to bear the irreparable loss.
He further called on the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and other road users to always ensure they emplace adequate safety measures in their vehicles and be conscious, with a view to preventing future reoccurrence.
He equally advised them to observe the speed limit, avoid overloading, recklessness, and be more careful while driving.
