House Of Reps Pledges Support For Nigerian Army

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has pledged to support the Nigerian Army (NA) in its effort to achieve its constitutional mandate to protect the country’s vital national interest of defending its territorial integrity and guaranteeing security in the country.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, Abdullahi Mamudu, made the pledge when he led members of the Committee on a maiden familiarization visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja on Wednesday 8 November 2023.

Abdullahi in his remarks, appreciated the effort of the Nigerian Army towards checkmating fledgling security challenges in the country.

The lawmakers, who were briefed on the operational and administrative activities of the NA, admitted that the Service is confronted with daunting challenges and pledged to provide requisite support to enhance its capabilities.

Speaking during the visit, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, expressed the readiness of the NA to partner with the law-making organ of the country in the discharge of its constitutional roles and the current operational efforts to stamp out insecurity in the country.

The Army Chief appreciated the Committee for its positive disposition in supporting the NA, which he stressed, has propelled it in the conduct of its operations, training, and other activities.

He noted that the NA is satisfied with the feedback from the committee, maintaining that it has facilitated the redefining of ongoing operations of the NA.

He further pointed out that the nation is currently facing myriads of security challenges, and at the same time assured of NA’s determination to continue to expand its frontier of peace and stability across the country, by boldly confronting emerging security challenges in the geopolitical zones.
