Nationwide Blackout As National Power Grid Collapses
Darkness has enveloped the country again, as the national power grid system being operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) collapsed on Sunday morning.
The grid went down at about 11:51 AM on Sunday, reducing the system’s capacity from 2,407 megawatts to 31MW and reaching zero megawatts at noon time.
A check on system operator’s platform shows that all the 20 power plants, except Ibom Power with 31 megawatts, were offline by 11:51 AM.
Although the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah is yet to speak on the matter when contacted, the Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has alerted its customers on the development.
In a Public Notice on Sunday, AEDC informed its valued customers that the power outage being experienced was as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours today, 4th February 2024 which has led to a nationwide power outage.
“Be rest assured that we are working with the relevant Stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized.
“We appeal for your patience”, the notice read.
