EFCC Refutes Media Report On Raid In Kwara University Hostel
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reacted to “a false story” published by an online news platform, alleging that its operatives shot at students during a raid on hostels at Kwara State University.
The anti-graft agency’s refutal of the report was contained in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale.
TheFact Daily gathers that the online news medium, Sahara Reporters, had headlined the report thus: “BREAKING: Operatives of Anti-Graft Agency, EFCC, NDLEA Shoot At Students During Raid on Kwara State University Hostels”, alleging that the incident occurred on Thursday, 22nd February 2024.
According to the EFCC, “the said report was fabricated as the operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC neither visited Kwara State University on Thursday, February 22, 2024 nor had any joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA’.
The statement further said that the only operation by the Commission happened a day earlier and involved the arrest of 48 students of Kwara State University, adding, ‘It was a well-coordinated and professional exercise devoid of any incident. And no other agency was involved in the operation’.
While enjoining the public to be wary of fabricated stories designed to mislead them about the works of the EFCC or incite the people against the Commission, the EFCC reiterated that it remains focused, un-fazed by blackmail, and totally committed to its mandate of tackling all forms of economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
