Why We Relaxed Nationwide Strike -Labour

The Organised Labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has said, the indefinite nationwide strike action was relaxed for One Week to allow the Federal Government commit to a concrete and acceptable National Minimum Wage.
Rising from its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the NLC’s Headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday, the Organised Labour said, following the agreement signed with the federal government on Monday there was a greater need to create the right ambience for negotiation to continue unhindered.
It pointed to the personal offer made by the President Bola Tinubu for a higher National Minimum Wage above the N60,000 (Sixty thousand Naira) on offer as the main reason for relaxing the strike action.
In a Communique issued at the end of the NERC Meeting, the labour unions resolved to allow the federal government take definitive steps to also reverse the electricity tariff hike back to N66/kwh and abolish the discriminatory classification of electricity consumers into Bands.
The Communique which was signed by the NLC President , Comrade Joe Ajaero and the TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo, the Organised Labour mandated the National Leadership to continue to maintain open channels of communication with the Federal Government to negotiate and secure favourable outcomes for Nigerian workers and people.
The NEC directed all affiliate unions and State Councils to Relax the indefinite nationwide strike and return to their respective workplaces immediately.
The NEC-in-Session expressed profound gratitude to Nigerian workers and the general public for their unwavering support and solidarity in this critical struggle for improved living and working conditions.
The Organised Labour said, it remains committed to pursuing all necessary actions to protect the rights and welfare of all Nigerian people and workers, and urged all to await further directives while the negotiation continues.
