
Operatives of the Kano state Police Command have arrested a young man for killing his grandparents.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement on Thursday, disclosed that the case was reported at the Dala Divisional Police Headquarters in the state.
According to him, the suspect, one Mutawakilu Ibrahim, aged 30, and a resident of Kofar Dawanau Quarters had a quarrel with his grandparents over a food-related issue.
This escalated into an altercation, during which the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries.
The victims, identified as Muhammad Dansokoto, aged 75, and Hadiza Tasidi, aged 65, were immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel. Their corpses were examined and later released to their relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Kiyawa said that the alleged culprit, suspected to be under the influence of intoxicants has been arrested, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section for discreet investigation, based on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation”, Kiyawa stated.
