The Federal Government has approved a 50 per cent fare discount on all passenger train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to ease transportation costs during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Ministry of Transportation’s Permanent Secretary, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the reduction applies to all NRC passenger train services nationwide.
The discount, approved through the Federal Ministry of Transportation, will take effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and run until Monday, June 1, 2026.
According to him, ticket fares on all routes have been reduced by half of the existing approved rates within the period of the intervention.
He added that passengers who purchased tickets before the announcement at full fare would receive a 50 per cent rebate, which can be reused for train trips on or before June 1, 2026.
Adebiyi noted that train schedules and timetables would remain unchanged throughout the festive period.
The ministry said the gesture was part of efforts by the Federal Government to support Nigerians with affordable transportation during the celebration.
It also appreciated Nigerians for their continued support and wished Muslim faithful and all passengers a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
