
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Sunday Attah has called for the review of the Kaduna Ordnance explosion of 21st September, 2025 at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) with a view of strengthening safety and preventing a reoccurrence.
Defence Ministry’s AD Information and Public Relations, Enderline Chukwu, in a statement on Friday, said Attah made the call during an inspection of the explosion scene on Thursday, 25th September, 2025 in Kaduna.
It will be recalled that on Saturday, 20th September 2025, an explosion occurred at DICON’s Ordnance Factory Disposal Pit in Kaduna, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others.
The corporation’s Public Relations Officer, Maria Sambo, disclosed that the explosion happened during the final phase of controlled destruction of expired explosives and other hazardous materials stored at the factory.
Attah enjoined the staff of the corporation to be steadfast in their duties and not be demoralised by the incident.
The Director General of the corporation, Major General B. l. Alaya informed that the situation is under control and that DICON will continue to operate within established protocols.
The Permanent Secretary was accompanied on the inspection by staff of the ministry.
