Ogun Police Charges Adetoun Onajobi For Cyberbullying

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count charge against human rights activist, Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known across multiple social media platforms as @justadetoun.

According to the state Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges are now pending before the Abeokuta Division of the Federal High Court.

He said that Onajobi was being charged for social media and other internet-enabled computer platforms to publish false accusations against the Ogun State Government and to further bully the Governor of Ogun State, in breach of the Cybercrimes Act.

Babaseyi disclosed that Adetoun Onajobi was invited for questioning on January 2, 2026, over allegations linked to the online bullying of the Ogun State Governor but failed to honour the invitation.

Through her lawyer, Onajobi claimed she was medically unfit to attend the interview and submitted a medical report purportedly issued by a doctor, detailing health challenges and treatment efforts.

However, discreet investigations later established that the medical report was false. The police said the doctor who issued the report was arrested and subsequently admitted that the document was fabricated at the instruction of Onajobi during a phone conversation facilitated by her lawyer.

Following the revelation, the doctor was arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document and obstructing the course of justice.

The Command noted that Onajobi has since remained evasive, repeatedly ignoring police invitations, and that her whereabouts are currently unknown, adding that efforts are ongoing to track other individuals linked to the alleged dissemination of false information aimed at obstructing investigations.

Reaffirming its commitment to tackling all forms of crime, including digital and white-collar offences, the Ogun State Police Command said it will pursue all lawful means to apprehend Onajobi and produce her in court to answer the charges already filed, while stressing that freedom of expression does not confer immunity from criminal conduct.
