Governor Hyacinth Alia has reaffirmed his determination to safeguard the land of Benue State residents, following fresh attacks by suspected armed herders on communities in the state.

The governor made the pledge on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Otukpo, where he met with residents affected by the recent attacks on Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities.

The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, said his administration has continued to provide logistical support and reinforcement to security forces operating in the state, vowing not to relent until all terrorists are flushed out of Benue.

As part of the visit, Governor Alia also went to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo, where he checked on victims receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the attacks.

He directed that the government fund comprehensive medical care for all the injured.

The governor’s tour also took him to the Ochi’Idoma’s Palace, where he sympathised with the traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Agaba’Idu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, over the killings.

Speaking at the palace, Governor Alia said, “it is my obligation to protect all lives in the state and I am assuring we shall never rest on our oars until peace fully returns to our communities”.

The visit forms part of the state government’s ongoing response to the wave of attacks by suspected armed herders that has continued to threaten communities across Benue State.
