By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commenced a training programme for its staff to ensure a seamless and transparent execution of the Federal Government’s directive to recruit 50,000 additional personnel into the Nigeria Police Force.

The workshop, which opened on Tuesday, is aimed at equipping commission staff with the skills and procedural knowledge required to manage what officials describe as a landmark recruitment exercise.

TheFact Daily notes that the training comes ahead of the next phase of the recruitment exercise scheduled for March 9, with 434,604 qualified applicants set to compete for the 50,000 available slots.

In a statement issued by PSC spokesman, Torty Kalu, the Commission’s Chairman, Hashimu Argungu—represented by retired Supreme Court Justice and PSC Commissioner, Paul Galumje—said the training underscores the commission’s commitment to delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to strengthen internal security nationwide.

He noted that the recruitment drive reflects the President’s concern over the country’s security situation and urged staff to justify the resources provided by ensuring a credible and efficient process.

Argungu called on participants to engage actively in the sessions to maximise the benefits of the workshop and guarantee a smooth implementation of the exercise.

In his keynote address, Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, Taiwo Lakanu, described the planned recruitment as a bold and timely intervention to address mounting security challenges.

He stressed that transparency and professionalism must guide the process, warning that the quality of recruits would shape the future effectiveness of the Police Force.

Lakanu reminded participants that they serve as ambassadors of the commission and must uphold integrity throughout the exercise, as their conduct would directly impact public trust.

The interactive session is expected to focus on recruitment guidelines, ethical standards and legal compliance to ensure the process is fair, inclusive and credible.
