Preparations are in top gear with the inauguration of the Accommodation and Transportation Committee ahead of the upcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Inaugurating the Committee in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of Works and Chairman of the Committee, Engr. David Umahi charged them on the need to hit the ground running as they were a deciding factor to the success or failure of the Convention.
TheFact Daily gathered that the 2026 APC National Convention is scheduled to hold in Abuja from Wednesday, 25 March to Saturday, 28 March 2026.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman stated that the success of any large national gathering such as the National Convention depends not only on the political processes that take place, but also on the efficiency of the logistical arrangements that support it.
“Delegates must arrive safely and on time.
Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated. Transportation between hotels, airports, and the convention venue must be well coordinated.
“When these logistics work smoothly, the Convention proceeds seamlessly. When they fail, even the most carefully planned event can be disrupted. It is therefore the responsibility of this Committee to ensure that the accommodation and transportation arrangements for the Convention are properly planned, well-coordinated, and professionally executed”, he said.
Umahi continued: “Our task will involve coordinating hotel accommodation for party leadership, delegates, and special guests; arranging transportation for VIPs and delegates; managing airport reception and transfers; and ensuring efficient movement between hotels and the convention venue.
“Given the scale of the Convention and the number of participants expected from across the Federation, this will require careful planning, strong coordination, and timely execution”.
He therefore noted that the meeting was intended to enable them formally commence their work, review the Committee’s Terms of Reference, consider the proposed operational structure, examine the preliminary logistics plan, and agree on the next steps required to deliver on their mandate.
“I would like to emphasize that time is of the essence. Early planning will enable us to secure hotel capacity, mobilize transportation resources, and establish the operational coordination systems required for the Convention.
“I am confident that with the experience, commitment, and leadership represented in this Committee, we will work together to ensure that the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organized, efficient, and successful manner”, he said.
Some of the Committee’s Terms of Reference include: Accommodation Planning and Coordination, Hotel Engagement and Room Allocation,Transportation Logistics and Movement Planning, Fleet Management and Vehicle Deployment, Coordination of Arrival and Departure Logistics, VIP and Special Guest Logistics Support, Operational Coordination with Other Committees, Establishment of a Logistics Coordination System, Monitoring and Operational Support During the Convention.
Through the effective execution of these responsibilities, the Committee is expected to ensure that delegates, officials, and guests are properly accommodated, efficiently transported, and adequately supported, thereby enabling the Convention to proceed in an organized and successful manner.
