This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the NCC Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Rimini Makama, to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos, according to a statement made available on Wednesday by the commission’s Head Public Affairs, Mrs, Nnenna Ukoha.

Makama described Plateau as a strategic partner in the implementation of Nigeria’s broadband agenda, citing its strong educational institutions, growing innovation ecosystem, and youthful population as key enablers of digital growth.

She noted that ongoing reforms, including Right of Way policies and digital initiatives, signal the state government’s readiness to support infrastructure development.

Despite these gains, she observed that many rural local government areas remain underserved, limiting access to digital services, education, and economic opportunities.

She stressed that bridging the connectivity gap requires collaboration, adding that the NCC is prepared to deploy its instruments, including the Universal Service Provision Fund, to support broadband rollout in affected communities.

“The NCC has identified Plateau State as a pivotal partner in Nigeria’s broadband agenda, not ceremonially, but strategically,” she said, emphasizing the need for sustained policy alignment to drive infrastructure expansion.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang welcomed the Commission’s intervention, describing it as timely and aligned with his administration’s focus on digital innovation.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to translating policy into practical outcomes, particularly in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The governor highlighted ongoing collaborations, including a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme to establish an innovation hub at Plateau State Polytechnic, and a memorandum of understanding with Solitran to accelerate broadband deployment across the state.

He also disclosed plans for a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) initiative aimed at creating remote work opportunities for at least 500 youths in Jos, noting the urgency of positioning the state to take advantage of global digital economy trends.

Mutfwang further called for a coordinated approach to digital transformation, stressing the need to modernise administrative systems to improve governance, service delivery, and participation in e-commerce.
