The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, reaffirming the long-standing partnership between both institutions in tackling national security challenges.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the visit highlighted the commitment of both agencies to deepen collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing and joint operations critical to safeguarding the country.
TheFact Daily reports that the Nigeria Police Force and the DSS have historically worked closely on high-risk national assignments, including counter-terrorism operations, election security, and the disruption of kidnapping and organised crime networks, with intelligence from the DSS often complementing police enforcement actions.
Speaking during the meeting, Disu described the DSS as a vital but often unseen partner in security operations, noting that many successful missions rely heavily on its intelligence support. He stressed the need for a stronger symbiotic relationship, with focus on election security, counter-terrorism, VIP protection, cybercrime, and economic sabotage.
The IGP also advocated increased joint training programmes to boost operational efficiency, reaffirming his resolve to strengthen cooperation between the Police and the DSS in the interest of national stability.
In his response, the DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Disu, citing his experience and leadership capacity. He also commended ongoing efforts to improve police training infrastructure nationwide.
The DSS boss assured of continued intelligence sharing and operational synergy with the Police, describing the partnership as a critical national asset, while both agencies pledged sustained cooperation to enhance security and institutional harmony.
