The Nigeria Police Force has taken a major step toward modern, sustainable policing with the acquisition of three specialized buses from the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV).
According to the Force PRO in a statement on Wednesday, the handover signals the formal kickoff of the Force’s transition to green energy, aimed at boosting operational efficiency while reducing reliance on conventional fuel and lowering environmental impact.
Both organizations described the donation as the first phase of a broader modernization programme that will see police vehicles converted to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The initiative is expected to significantly cut fuel costs, improve fleet sustainability, and build long-term technical capacity within the Force.
Responding, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, welcomed the intervention as a forward-looking move that aligns the Nigeria Police Force with global best practices. He assured that the buses would enhance personnel mobility and welfare, while plans to establish in-house conversion centres would ensure maintenance autonomy and sustained innovation.

The event drew top officials from both partner organizations, including NPF-TF Executive Secretary Mohammad Sheidu and PI-CNG & EV CEO Barrister Ismail Ahmed, alongside other senior stakeholders, underscoring strong institutional backing for the initiative.
The ceremony concluded with the formal handover and inspection of the vehicles, marking a new phase in the Police’s drive toward cost-effective, technologically advanced, and environmentally responsible operations.
