The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has been unanimously re-elected Chairman of the Association of African Air Forces (AAAF) for another two-year term at the 2026 African Air Chiefs’ Symposium held in Tunis, Tunisia.

NAF disclosed this on Wednesday in a post on its Facebook page.

According to the Service, Aneke’s re-election reflected the confidence of member nations in his leadership and strategic vision for strengthening collective security, regional stability and African-led responses to terrorism, insurgency and other emerging threats across the continent.

The symposium, organised under the auspices of the AAAF, brought together Air Chiefs, senior military leaders and strategic partners from across Africa to deepen collaboration in airpower development, interoperability and coordinated security operations.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Air Marshal Aneke stressed the need for stronger partnerships, intelligence sharing and enhanced operational coordination among African nations to tackle evolving security challenges.

According to him, the symposium theme, “Operationalizing the Association of African Air Forces: A New Era of Shared Responsibility,” highlighted the urgency of developing practical and sustainable African-led solutions to threats undermining peace and stability across the continent.

On the sidelines of the symposium, the CAS also held bilateral and multilateral engagements with partner air forces and international stakeholders aimed at expanding cooperation in training, joint exercises, intelligence sharing and counter-terrorism operations.
