The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) have pledged to deepen collaboration and strengthen the security of critical assets within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
According to NERC, this commitment was reinforced in Abuja when its Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, received a delegation from the office in a high-level courtesy visit.
While welcoming them, Dr. Oseni applauded the office for its pivotal role in safeguarding power infrastructure in the country.
He stressed that the rising wave of vandalism targeting electricity assets across the country demands a more coordinated response between the two agencies.
“Stronger synergy between NERC and ONSA is essential to protecting critical electricity assets and improving the reliability of power supply nationwide,” Oseni said.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, the Director of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection, Air Vice Marshal Enebong Effiom, reiterated the call for cooperation, underscoring the strategic importance of securing the power sector infrastructure to national stability.
Key take-aways from the meeting include the establishment of a joint stakeholders’ forum to combat vandalism, development of a shared database of assets, vandalism incidents, and infraction reports to assess threat levels, and Creation of a reporting platform to enable timely incident reporting, faster arrests, and prosecution of criminal elements.
