TCN Apo Substation Fault: We’re Working To Minimise Impact -AEDC

By Sunday Etuka

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) says efforts are being intensified to minimise the impact of the power supply disruption caused by the faulty transformer belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Apo Substation.

AEDC, in a Public Announcement on Saturday, disclosed that it has gotten assurances from the TCN that power supply would be restored to the impacted lines today.

TCN, had earlier announced that the heavy rainfall of May 22, 2026, affected the 100MVA Transformer (TR3) at Apo Transmission Substation, consequently, disrupted electricity supply to parts of the Federal capital city.

As a temporary measure, TCN directed the AEDC to reroute supply for customers connected to the affected transformer’s outgoing 33kV feeders through other TCN Feeders within AEDC’s franchise area, pending the completion of repairs.

However, AEDC said while TCN has advised that it takes power from the 33kV feeders, the supply from the feeders unfortunately cannot be distributed to the areas impacted by the tripping of the 100MVA transformer, saying that “these alternative power routes can only meet our customers in Kogi and Niger.”

Notwithstanding, the power company assured its esteemed customers that it is working assiduously with the TCN to support restoration efforts and reduce the impact on affected customers.

“While TCN maintenance engineers continue repairs on the affected transformer and have assured that restoration is expected later today, AEDC is actively rationalising available supply through alternative feeders, where technically feasible, to provide supply to affected locations pending full restoration by TCN,” the AEDC said in the public announcement.

The company apologised for the inconvenience the transmission-related outage has caused its valued customers and appreciated their patience and understanding during this period.
