Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has welcomed the election of Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim as Chairman of the United Nations Budget and Administration Committee.
Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Ebienfa noted that the election of Amb. Ibrahim to this important position was a testament of the confidence reposed in Nigeria by the international community to contribute meaningfully to the effective management and administration of the affairs of the global institution.
He added that, “the Federal Government of Nigeria welcomes this development and considers it a recognition of the country’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, and constructive engagement in global governance”.
He further said Nigeria remains dedicated to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency, transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of the United Nations system.
According to the Spokesperson, the Minister expressed confidence that Amb. Ibrahim will bring his extensive expertise and distinguished record of service to bear in the discharge of his responsibilities and wishes him a successful tenure as Chairman of the Committee.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs therefore reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with Member States and the United Nations to advance shared goals of peace, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
