The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed social media reports alleging that young people in Nyanya, Abuja, are selling their kidneys for money, describing the claims as unverified.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, stressing that the police had neither received nor confirmed any report of kidney sales or human organ trafficking in the area.
Adeh said the reports circulating on social media claimed that youths living around Nyanya were selling their kidneys, while an alleged agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was buying the organs.
“The command wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature. No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” she said.
The police spokesperson urged the public to disregard the publication and desist from circulating unverified information capable of causing fear, panic and apprehension among residents.
She, however, urged anyone with information concerning alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern in the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station or contact the command on 07038979348 or 08028940883.
