FG Releases Eight Months Allowance To Staff Of Federal Tertiary Institutions
By Alice Etuka, Abuja
The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic staff of all Federal Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, covering the period from January to August 2026.
Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Boriowo Folasade disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Boriowo said the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who announced the development, said the payment reflects the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu-led Administration to improving workers’ welfare, strengthening industrial harmony and creating an enabling environment for the effective delivery of quality education, in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Alausa said the release of CONTA underscores the Administration’s recognition that the welfare, motivation and commitment of both academic and non-academic personnel were essential to the stability and effective functioning of tertiary institutions and, ultimately, to the development of Nigeria’s human capital.
According to the Minister, the payment is also part of the Federal Government’s sustained efforts to address legitimate welfare concerns, promote industrial harmony and minimise disruptions to academic activities across the nation’s tertiary education system.
The announcement follows the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday, further demonstrating the Federal Government’s efforts to meet its obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector.
Dr. Alausa stated that the payments reaffirm the Administration’s commitment to strengthening the institutions responsible for producing the skilled workforce required to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He assured stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to engage relevant unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to address outstanding issues, promote mutual understanding and foster a stable, productive and globally competitive tertiary education system.
The Minister commended academic and non-academic staff, heads of institutions, unions and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation with the Federal Government.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that the Ministry, under his leadership, would sustain the implementation of policies and initiatives that prioritise staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.
The Federal Ministry of Education therefore assures personnel and all stakeholders in the tertiary education sector that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, remained committed to fulfilling its obligations, addressing legitimate outstanding issues and sustaining reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s education system and advance the human capital development objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
