How Troops Repelled Lakurawa Attack On Kebbi Base

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the attackers, who arrived in large numbers on more than 100 motorcycles, were armed with General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, but the troops responded swiftly, forcing the terrorists to retreat and abandon weapons, equipment and other logistics.

Danja said troops subsequently launched exploitation and pursuit operations, recovering 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device.

He said the recoveries represented a significant setback to the terrorists’ operational capability in the area, adding that the general area remained firmly under military control.

The spokesman said aggressive patrols, clearance and dominance operations were ongoing to track and neutralise fleeing terrorists, stressing that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remained committed to protecting communities and denying terrorists freedom of operation within its Joint Operations Area.
