2027: Learn From Americans, Reject APC, ADC Tells Nigerians

By Sunday Etuka

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians to take a lesson from Tuesday’s midterm elections in the United States, where voters dealt a heavy blow to the ruling Republican Party and rejected its leadership and its unpopular economic policies.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the American result proves that the real power in a democracy belongs to citizens and their votes, not to the president or the governing party.

According to the ADC, Americans have shown that when politicians grow arrogant, when policies hurt ordinary people, and when those in office treat popularity as a permanent licence to rule, the ballot box remains the final tool for holding them to account.

“American voters understand something Nigerians must also learn. Elections are about the welfare of citizens, not sentiment, party loyalty or personality cults. No leader is bigger than the people, and no party is entitled to power forever,” the statement said.

The party noted that Nigerians have suffered years of severe economic hardship, growing insecurity and shrinking opportunities under the APC government led by President Bola Tinubu, yet are being asked to give the same party another mandate.

“We cannot keep complaining about the cost of living while voting for a President who has made life unaffordable. We cannot demand security while rewarding failure. We cannot sincerely long for change while sustaining the very system that has impoverished us all,” the ADC said.

The party said the 2027 elections present a historic opportunity and called on citizens to treat their voter cards as tools for change rather than mere souvenirs of citizenship. It urged Nigerians to turn out in large numbers and vote in their own interest.

The ADC added that it and its candidates are offering a clear alternative built on three promises: to make Nigeria affordable again, to make Nigeria safe again, and to give Nigerians jobs again.

“If Americans can use their votes to demand better, Nigerians can do the same. In 2027, let our votes speak louder than the suffering caused by the APC,” the statement concluded.
