Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, have congratulated Nigeria’s Flamingos on their historic triumph at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The Flamingos defeated Japan 2-1 in the final to claim Nigeria’s first title at the competition.
Reacting in separate messages, Atiku said the team had made history.
He congratulated the players on the victory and recalled that captain Harmony Chidi had spoken of a dream that would make her teammates and the country proud.
“Tonight, that dream belongs to every Nigerian,” he said, while saluting the captain, her teammates, Coach Akeem Busari and the entire technical and support staff for the achievement.
Atiku added that the young players are a reminder of what Nigerian talent can achieve when it is nurtured and given the opportunity to flourish.
He expressed the hope that their success would inspire more girls to pursue their dreams with confidence and courage.
“Thank you, Flamingos, for giving our nation this moment of joy and unity. We are immensely proud of you,” he said.
Obi, in his own message titled “Flamingos: You Have Made Nigeria Proud,” also extended warm congratulations to the team on its historic win.
He thanked the young stars for raising the national flag high and bringing immense joy to the country.
According to him, the players’ remarkable talent, resilience, hard work and dedication have earned them a special place in the hearts of Nigerians.
“You have made our nation proud, and we truly appreciate your outstanding efforts. Congratulations, champions!” Obi said.
