AEDC Blames Reduced Power Supply On Transmission Line Faults From Shiroro Station

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says customers across Abuja and parts of its franchise area are experiencing significant power supply challenges following transmission constraints that began on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
In a public announcement signed by its management on Wednesday, the company explained that the tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Station has drastically cut the volume of electricity available to it, with allocation falling from about 641MW to just 314MW.
The company said the sharp drop has affected its ability to distribute power normally, resulting in load shedding across several feeders, including those under Band A, which typically enjoy more stable supply.
AEDC also noted that the National Control Centre (NCC) reported low generation levels nationwide, a development it said has worsened the already strained supply situation.
The company apologised to affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
It stated that it was working with relevant stakeholders in the power sector to address the transmission issues and would continue to optimise available supply as conditions improve.
AEDC urged customers to remain patient as efforts continue to normalise electricity supply within its network.
