Akwa Ibom Gov, Eno Under Fire For Appointing Daughter As First Lady

Our Reporter

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno has been lambasted for appointing his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as Acting First Lady, barely two weeks after the passing of his wife, Patience Eno.

Governor Eno announced on Friday during a condolence visit by the Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, that Helen would assume the duties of the First Lady to carry on with the initiatives of the late wife.

He said, ‘To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.

“She will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare”, the governor said.

Reacting to the development, Purtu @PortuOsha7 said, “First lady don turn post… The first lady is supposed to be the wife of the office holder not the daughter. It’s not a monarchy kind of government… It’s a democratic form of government. Nonsense”.

Lord Baelish @shetteyma said, “The Deputy Gov’s wife shud act in that capacity & not his daughter. Moreover the office of first lady is unconstitutional”.

Also commenting, Polyj @jogopolycarp1 said, “Haba as if the first lady office is constitutional. This power tussle is very bad”.

Edom Michael @EdomMichae34551 also said, “Is anybody dragging the position why in a haste”.
