Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have recorded fresh successes against terrorist groups in Sokoto and Katsina states, rescuing abducted victims, recovering rustled livestock and weapons.

According to the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the operations which were carried out between June 21 and 22 as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West region, also saw the neutralization of terrorists.

Subsequent aerial surveillance tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were reportedly moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock. Troops immediately launched a pursuit operation and fought through an ambush mounted by the terrorists.

The operation led to the rescue of the abductees, recovery of the stolen cattle and seizure of two motorcycles used by the criminals.

In a separate operation in the early hours of June 22, troops carried out an intelligence-led raid on a suspected terrorist enclave in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The surprise assault resulted in the killing of two terrorists, while several others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.

Troops recovered a PKT assault rifle, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock and other logistics believed to have been used by the terrorist group.

Military authorities said the operations underscore the determination of troops to sustain offensive actions against terrorist and criminal elements, assuring residents that efforts to dismantle armed groups and restore lasting peace across the North-West would continue.
