Dangote Foundation Gives Nigerian Students 10 Free IPO Shares

By Sunday Etuka

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched a Student Share Grant Initiative to help young Nigerians start investing early, build financial literacy and develop a habit of long term wealth creation.

Open to students aged 18 and above in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, the programme gives participants a hands on introduction to saving, responsible investing and ownership through the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP).

Under the scheme, an eligible student who completes verification and subscribes for at least 10 DPRP shares through the designated platform, ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org, will have the Foundation fund an application for an additional 10 DPRP shares in the student’s name at no extra cost.

The initiative is part of ADF’s wider effort to empower young Nigerians through education, economic inclusion and practical financial knowledge. By pairing investor education with real participation in the capital market, the Foundation hopes to raise a generation of informed investors and responsible wealth creators.

Chairman of the Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said support for young people must go beyond access to education. “It must also involve equipping them with the knowledge and opportunities to participate in economic growth and wealth creation,” he said.

He added that early exposure to investment can shape young people’s future financial decisions and encourage greater participation in the formal economy. According to him, young people who understand ownership early are better placed to make informed choices, build wealth responsibly and contribute to economic development.

The Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Zouera Youssoufou, said the programme links financial education to practical experience. She explained that students will see firsthand how the investment process works, from verification and subscription to allotment and ownership, while learning the importance of responsible participation in the capital market.

She said the Foundation’s goal goes beyond a single IPO transaction. “We are seeking to inspire a lifelong interest in financial literacy, investing and asset ownership among young Nigerians,” she said.

To take part, eligible students enrolled in recognised tertiary institutions can visit ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org to complete verification. Once verified, they will be directed to the subscription channel, where they can apply for a minimum of 10 DPRP shares in their own name and for their own benefit. Those who complete the process will qualify for the Foundation to fund the additional 10 shares.

The Foundation stressed that the initiative applies only to eligible students using the designated platform and cannot be used to buy shares for another person, another Dangote company or any other company.

ADF also clarified that the grant is a standalone programme meant to promote financial literacy and investment participation. Participation is voluntary and should not be taken as investment advice or a recommendation to buy DPRP shares. Prospective participants are encouraged to review all IPO documents carefully and make their own decisions.

I kept your headline as given and wrote the story without dashes, including in terms like “long term,” “hands on” and “firsthand.” Note that the headline’s “free” shares apply only after a student subscribes for 10 shares of their own, which the story makes clear.
