The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned N125 million recovered from an alleged land fraud to the victim, Akinsewa Akiode, in Lagos.
The anti-graft agency said on Friday that its Lagos Directorate 2 handed over the funds to Akiode in Sterling Bank drafts on Thursday, August 6, 2026, following his petition against Olufemi Omoola Fashehun.
Akiode alleged that Fashehun obtained the money from him under the pretext of selling a 550-square-metre property at 10 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, while concealing the fact that the property was subject to a court case pending since 2011.
The EFCC said its investigation established that the suspect had been served with several court processes, including injunctions restraining construction on the property, but failed to disclose the legal dispute before collecting the purchase money.
As a result, Akiode reportedly lost both the property and developments under construction, prompting him to petition the Commission.
Following the investigation, the EFCC recovered the full N125 million from the suspect and restituted the money to Akiode.
Speaking during the handover, the Acting Zonal Director, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to investigating financial crimes, recovering proceeds of crime and restituting victims where necessary.
