Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to peace, compassion and service to humanity, as Muslims across the country and beyond mark this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebration commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday, the Vice President described the life of the Prophet as an enduring lesson in mercy, humility, justice and patience, noting that true leadership must be anchored on fairness while faith is best demonstrated through how people treat one another.
Shettima said that with Nigeria recording sustained economic growth under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citizens should draw inspiration from these values to strengthen national unity, care for the vulnerable and resist hatred, division and intolerance in all forms.
He described the country’s religious and cultural diversity as one of its greatest assets, stressing the need to build a Nigeria where people of every faith and background can coexist in peace, dignity and mutual respect.
The Vice President urged Nigerians to use the period to reach out to those in need and extend kindness to neighbours and communities, adding that the true essence of the celebration lies in reflecting the Prophet’s teachings in everyday life rather than in remembrance alone.
Shettima concluded his message with prayers for the nation, asking Almighty Allah to accept the supplications of the faithful, grant Nigeria lasting peace and prosperity, and guide its citizens on the path of righteousness. He extended felicitations to the Muslim Ummah and all Nigerians, wishing them “Eid Mubarak.”
