FG Targets Global Defence Spotlight With AFRIDEX 2026

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to position Nigeria as a hub for defence innovation and global security collaboration ahead of AFRIDEX 2026, a major international exhibition slated for Lagos.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this known on Tuesday, while receiving organisers of the African International Defence Exhibition, led by Major General Umar Alkali, during a high-level meeting in Abuja.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s security architecture must prioritise inter-agency collaboration and innovation, warning that isolated efforts would limit progress and national impact.

Tunji-Ojo described AFRIDEX as a strategic platform to showcase emerging talents—especially Nigerian youths in digital and cybersecurity—while also bridging the gap between research, industry and investment.

The exhibition, scheduled for October 26–29 at Eko Atlantic City, is expected to attract over 30,000 participants and 500 exhibitors, featuring advancements across land, air, maritime, space and cyber domains.

Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, AFRIDEX 2026 is projected to boost international participation and strengthen Nigeria’s indigenous defence industry, with the government pledging full support, including improved visa facilitation and security coordination.
