FG To Bridge Poverty Gap In N/Delta Region

The Federal Government has expressed readiness in creating wealth for people in the Niger Delta through a policy framework that seeks to eradicate the gap between the rich and the poor in the region.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Umana Umana, disclosed in Calabar during the commissioning of the Cross River State office of the Ministry, according to a statement by the Director Press and Public Relations,Patricia Deworitshe on Wednesday.

The Cross River State office is one of the statutory offices that ensure representation of the Ministry in each of the nine states that make up the Niger Delta region.

The minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary ,Engr. Olufunso Adebiyi, explained that all the aspects of the project construction were awarded to local contractors as a deliberate policy to empower the community with employment opportunities for the youths of the area.

Governor of the state, Professor Ben Ayade, who was represented by Dr. Ekeng Effiom Edet, member of the State House of Assembly, thanked the Federal Government for the state office, and promised to ensure its safe use for the good of the state.

The Cross River State office is made up of a town hall and furnished offices with a provision for alternative power source.
