The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has disclosed its partnership with the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) to improve ferry scheduling, and support smarter weather-informed transport planning across Lagos State.
NiMet’s Director General ,Professor Charles Anosike, disclosed this on Monday when he received a delegation from LASWA, led by its General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, during a courtesy Visit in Abuja.
Discussions were focused on integrating NiMet’s real-time meteorological data into LASWA’s operational framework to enhance waterway safety.
Both parties also considered signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize and strengthen the partnership.
The proposed collaboration aims to improve ferry routing, minimize weather-related disruptions, and enhance emergency response capabilities.
Additionally, both agencies emphasized the importance of operator training and public awareness as critical components for achieving safer and more efficient water transport services in Lagos.
