The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has strongly warned motorists and members of the public that assault on its personnel would no longer be tolerated.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who handed down the warning, said the Corps has zero-tolerance for attacks on operatives carrying out their lawful duties.

The warning comes on the heels of the arrest of a suspect involved in the assault of an FRSC patrol team in Edo State.

In a statement on Thursday by the Deputy Corps Commander, Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the Corps narrated that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 11 April 2026, involved a patrol team from RS5.1 Edo Sector Command who had flagged down a vehicle for seat belt violation.

It said in a brazen act of defiance, the driver fled the scene with an FRSC Marshal still engaged in enforcement, before mobilising a group of commercial tricycle operators who violently attacked the officers.

The Marshal was forcefully pushed into a gutter and assaulted, while the Team Leader was also physically attacked. Revealing that the suspect subsequently escaped.

The Cops said upon swift collaboration with security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), the offender was tracked, apprehended, and has since confessed to the crime, expressing remorse for his actions.

The FRSC commended the professionalism and prompt response of the security agencies in ensuring the suspect was brought to justice.

Commenting on the incident, the Corps Marshal emphasised that assault on law enforcement officers is a serious criminal offence and would be met with the full weight of the law.

While acknowledging the suspect’s remorse, the Corps reiterated that due process would be followed, and appropriate legal action pursued to serve as a deterrent to others.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to cooperate with FRSC operatives at all times and utilize established channels for complaints or redress, rather than resorting to violence. The Corps remains committed to its mandate of ensuring safer roads while upholding the rule of law and protecting its personnel,” the Corps said in the statement.

While disclosing that the injured Marshal is currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate care, the Corps said it would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all perpetrators of violence against its personnel are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted accordingly.
