Reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s Bill to the House of Representatives and Senate on Tuesday to amend the tenure of the IGP, the Alliance’s Board Chairman, Comrade Adewole Kehinde, said that the amendment bill is a significant milestone in the quest for a more robust, responsive, and people-friendly policing system in Nigeria.

“Mr President values the dedication to work of the Inspector General of Police, and the bill is a message to IGP Kayode Egbetokun to carry on the reform of the Nigeria Police for the next three years.

“We also commend members of the National Assembly’s speedy passage of the very important bill, the Police Act Amendment, as we expect President Tinubu to sign the bill into law this week, Adewole said.

It will be recalled that the National Assembly on the same Tuesday passed the Police Act Amendment Bill to enable a person appointed to the office of Inspector General of Police (IGP) to remain in office until the end of the term stipulated in the letter of appointment.

The bill expeditiously scaled second and third readings on Tuesday and was passed by lawmakers in both green and red chambers. The upper and lower chambers passed the bill at separate sittings.
