A group, The Democratic Front (TDF), has commended President Bola Tinubu for choosing to concentrate on the demands of office rather than appear at every campaign rally ahead of the January 2027 presidential election, describing the move as a personal sacrifice that keeps government business moving.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the decision proves the President is ready to practise what his administration preaches under the “Nigeria First” policy, which was launched on 5th May 2025 after approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to the group, the decision also shows how seriously the administration views this crucial period in Nigeria’s economic history, as well as the President’s resolve to protect the gains of his economic reforms.
TDF criticised opposition presidential candidates who have faulted the President’s approach, singling out the ADC candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
It called such criticism unpatriotic and condemnable, and said it would be delusional for any opposition candidate to see a political advantage in the President’s decision.
The group said Tinubu acted in the best interest of the country, adding that only a leader genuinely concerned about the welfare of his people would make such a sacrifice.
It claimed that, without any scintilla of doubt, the President has introduced a groundbreaking innovation in Nigeria’s democratic culture that deserves to be emulated, and that history will remember him for it.
TDF also said the decision indicates that the President has assembled a reliable, robust and formidable campaign team capable of convincing Nigerians to renew his mandate for another four years without distracting him from state obligations.
The group argued that a leader who has pulled the economy back from the brink, confronted insecurity head-on and introduced student loans to widen access to tertiary education for indigent students does not need extensive campaigning to win re-election.
It further cited the transformation of the healthcare system to allow local treatment of kidney ailments and cancer, heavy public investment in agriculture to reduce and stabilise food prices, and the consolidation of the public revenue system to boost national income and productivity.
For these reasons, TDF said, the President need not be physically present at every rally to explain why he deserves another term before voters make their choice.
