The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a police inspector at the residence of the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Hon. Rex Anunobi, in Owerri.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Okoye Henry, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, identifying the suspects as Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Mourice, 25, both of whom were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported on September 14, 2026.
TheFact Daily gathers from earlier media reports on the incident that the slain officer was identified as Inspector Henry Effiong, who was attached to the Imo State Police Command and was on guard duty at the residence of Trade and Investment Commissioner, Rex Anunobi, in New Owerri when he was attacked and killed by unidentified assailants. The attackers reportedly made away with his service rifle and some personal belongings.
DSP Okoye Henry stated that the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. Following the directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the Divisional Police Officer of New Owerri Division visited the scene, conducted preliminary examinations and recovered relevant exhibits.
The remains of the deceased officer were deposited at a mortuary, while the case has been transferred to the SCID for further investigation. Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be at large.
Bosso commiserated with the family of the slain inspector and assured them that justice would be served. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
