The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has successfully submitted names of its candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline and has criticised the opposition parties that failed the same deadline.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said it met the July 11 deadline for uploading its candidates’ particulars despite fielding a large number of aspirants across various elective offices.
According to the APC, INEC subsequently extended the submission deadline to July 14, 2026, at the request of the opposition parties that had failed to meet the initial cut-off date. The party said INEC acted within its statutory powers in granting the extension.
However, the APC argued that opposition parties’ failure to meet the original deadline, despite having fewer candidates to manage, reflected poorly on their internal organisation and readiness to govern.
The statement described the development as evidence of what it called the opposition’s “chronic inherent weakness” and questions their “operational capacity.”
The party also accused the opposition parties of hypocrisy, noting that some of them had previously alleged that INEC was influenced by the APC, yet turned to the Commission for an extension when they missed the deadline.
The statement pointed out that the APC, which it said would have benefitted had INEC not extended the deadline, did not seek any concession, having already completed its submissions.
APC said the successful upload of particulars of its Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal, demonstrated the party’s “leadership and superior organisational capacity.”
APC called on all Party leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters to deepen grassroots mobilisation, and prepare for a vigorous, issue-based campaign that will earn the Party a renewed mandate in the 2027 general elections.
