By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Armed men have abducted Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The family confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday through Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, saying the victims were kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. while Mrs John-Paul was taking her children to school.

According to the statement, the gunmen intercepted the 43-year-old and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, before taking them to an unknown destination. Security agencies were immediately notified and have since launched efforts to rescue the victims and track down the abductors.

Mrs John-Paul is a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. The family said she recently relocated to Ibadan with her children and was making arrangements to join her husband in the United States.

The abduction has heightened concerns over security in Oyo State, particularly amid recent reports of kidnappings and attacks in parts of the state. Family members described the incident as traumatic and appealed for the safe return of the victims.

The family urged the public to avoid circulating unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations and called on Nigerians to support them with prayers while sharing any useful information with security agencies.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, CSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said he could not immediately confirm the incident.

Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and one-time Minister of Power, is a prominent political figure in Oyo State and grandson of renowned Ibadan politician Adegoke Adelabu.
