Just In: Supreme Court Declares Mutfwang Duly Elected Governor Of Plateau State

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

The Supreme Court has declared Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected Governor of Plateau State.

Recall that a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Elphreda Williams-Dawodu had declared Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state, therefore, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw his certificate of return.

However, in a lead judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim on Friday, the apex court set aside the earlier judgement of the court of appeal which upturned the victory of Mutfwang and affirmed the judgment of the election tribunal which had dismissed the petition by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Nentawe Yilwatda.
