Katsina Govt Recommits To Reviving Agric Sector Amid Security Threats

The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed commitment to reviving the agricultural sector amid the security challenges facing the farmers in the state.

Governor Dikko Radda, restated the government’s commitment while distributing agricultural inputs to the farmers in the state, according to the post by Isah Miqdad, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Digital Media.

Katsina state has been battling with banditry, kidnapping and other security issues lately, but the governor is confident of reviving farming activities to boost food production in the state.

According to Isah Miqdad, the governor distributed Agricultural inputs to 2,040 Dry season farmers, in addition to 204 water solar pumps, 204 tube wells, and capacity building for 2,040 beneficiaries.

He also stated that about 12,250 farmers received agricultural equipment worth N763,199,500.00 under KT-Cares intervention.
“Similarly, in an effort to revive Agricultural extension service in the State, a total of 722 Agricultural extension workers have been trained and provided with a motorcycle and sprayer each, amongst others.
“To enhance food production in this year’s farming season, the Government has recently launched the distribution of 20 metric tons of fertilizer which will be distributed to farmers at a 50% subsidized rate.
“Furthermore, Katsina State Government is currently engaging with the Regional Center Songhaï in Benin Republic to rehabilitate and bring back to life Mairuwa and Makera Songhai Farms in Katsina to enhance agricultural productivity and create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state”, SSA said.
