The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) will this week roll out a series of empowerment and capacity-building programmes in Kano State, targeting women, youths, and students with practical skills training in renewable energy, technology, and vocational trades.
The initiative, to be led personally by NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, are part of the agency’s broader effort to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, STEM education, and sustainable livelihoods across Nigeria.
According to NASENI, the week’s activities kick off on Thursday, June 25, 2026, with the Closing Ceremony of the agency’s She-Powers Energy Initiative, a programme that trained 50 women drawn from the Kunbotso and Tarauni Local Government Areas of Kano State.
The women received intensive hands-on training in solar installation and maintenance, renewable energy systems, and enterprise development, equipping them to participate in Nigeria’s growing clean energy economy and earn income within their communities.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, NASENI will formally flag off its Skill Acquisition Training Programmes, also in Kano, covering a wider range of vocational and technical disciplines. Participants will receive training in solar installation and maintenance, welding and metal fabrication, mobile phone hardware repairs, and dry food processing and packaging.
As part of the Saturday event, selected schools will receive laptops and STEM innovation kits to strengthen science and technology education at the grassroot levels.
The Deputy Governor of Kano State is expected as a Special Guest of Honour at the flag off ceremony, with Mr. Halilu serving as ChiefHost.
NASENI described the Kano interventions as a reflection of its mandate to harness science, technology and innovation in service of community development and Nigeria’s industrial growth.
The agency said the programmes are designed to strengthen local capacity, expand employment opportunities, and promote inclusive economic advancement.
