Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled a cattle rustling attack and neutralised three suspected armed bandits in Rimi Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement, saying that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, February 13, 2026, when heavily armed bandits stormed Magaje village in Rimi, firing sporadically and rustling a number of livestock before fleeing the scene.

Upon receiving the distress report, the DPO of Rimi Division swiftly mobilised officers in collaboration with neighbouring divisions and the military. The joint security team tracked the attackers to Magaje village, where a gun duel ensued.

Tragically, the DPO was fatally shot in the line of duty, while another officer sustained a gunshot wound to his hand.

According to Aliyu, the injured officer has been taken to hospital and is reportedly responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, commended the courage and teamwork displayed by the joint security operatives.

He described the fallen DPO as upright, honest and professional, while expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extending condolences to the officer’s family and colleagues.
