Northeast: Troops Seize Over 400 Starlink Devices Used By Terrorists
By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja
Troops of Joint Task Force (NE) OPERATION HADIN KAI have intercepted more than 400 Starlink satellite internet devices allegedly used by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters for communication across the theatre.
According to security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X on Tuesday, the disclosed this while briefing defence correspondents on ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting insurgent logistics and communication networks.
He said the Starlink equipment, linked to Elon Musk’s satellite internet service,
was recovered during coordinated operations across Sambisa Forest, the Timbuktu Triangle, and other known terrorist enclaves.
Martins explained that the seizures are part of a broader strategy to cut off insurgents’ access to supplies, fuel, and communications, which he described as essential to sustaining their operations.
He noted that terrorists rely heavily on civilian supply chains and collaborators, some acting voluntarily while others are coerced, to move food, drugs, fuel, and equipment into remote camps.
According to him, hundreds of logistics couriers and suppliers have been arrested, with security forces also intercepting consignments of fuel, drugs, food items, and spare parts along major supply routes into insurgent strongholds.
Martins reaffirmed that sustained pressure from troops has weakened terrorist networks, reduced their operational mobility, and led to increased surrenders, adding that operations will continue to intensify across the sector.
